All victims of US invasion and imperialism should sue for compensation, and after Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, and much much more, that\u2019s a lot\u2026 And don\u2019t forget Hiroshima!<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>After the US Congress passed the Justice Against Sponsors of\u00a0Terrorism Act (JASTA), which overrides the principle of\u00a0sovereign immunity to\u00a0allow families of\u00a09\/11 victims to\u00a0sue Saudi Arabia, an Iraqi group has requested parliament to\u00a0prepare a lawsuit seeking compensation from\u00a0the US for\u00a0the invasion of\u00a0Iraq.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cArab Project in\u00a0Iraq\u201d lobby group \u201csees their opportunity to\u00a0ask for\u00a0compensation from\u00a0the United States over\u00a0violations by\u00a0the US forces following\u00a0the US invasion that saw the toppling of\u00a0late President Saddam Hussein in\u00a02003,\u201d the Al-Arabiya news channel reported on\u00a0Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt urged for\u00a0a full-fledged investigation over\u00a0the killing of\u00a0civilians targets, loss of\u00a0properties and individuals who suffered torture and other mistreatment on\u00a0the hand of\u00a0US forces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Iraqi group is the first to\u00a0take advantage of\u00a0the precedent set by\u00a0JASTA in\u00a0overturning the principle of\u00a0sovereign immunity.<\/p>\n<p>President Obama had\u00a0attempted to\u00a0veto\u00a0the legislation, but\u00a0his veto was overturned by\u00a0the Senate on\u00a0Wednesday. By passing JASTA and allowing 9\/11 families to\u00a0sue Saudi Arabia, the Senate has also made the US vulnerable to\u00a0legal action seeking compensation for\u00a0its foreign policy activities across\u00a0the world.<\/p>\n<p>The day after\u00a0the Senate vote, former Republican Senator Larry Pressler expressed fear that as\u00a0a veteran of\u00a0the Vietnam War, he could now face legal action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a Vietnam combat veteran, I could almost certainly be sued by\u00a0the Vietnamese government or by\u00a0a Vietnamese citizen,\u201d Pressler wrote in\u00a0The Hill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Gulf War, Iraq War and Afghanistan War veterans are more protected by\u00a0constitutional congressional actions, but\u00a0we Vietnam veterans will be raw targets if Americans can sue Saudi Arabia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday the first US lawsuit was filed under\u00a0JASTA, alleging that Saudi Arabia provided material support to\u00a0al-Qaeda and its leader Osama bin Laden. The complaint was filed by\u00a0Stephanie Ross DeSimone, who was widowed when her husband, a Navy Commander, was killed at\u00a0the Pentagon on\u00a09\/11. The lawsuit is also filed on\u00a0behalf of\u00a0the couple\u2019s daughter, who was born after\u00a0his death.<\/p>\n<p>Saudi Arabia denies any culpability for\u00a0the 9\/11 attacks, and has warned that it might be forced to\u00a0sell off\u00a0billions of\u00a0US assets to\u00a0avoid sanctions if JASTA became law, a move which would destabilize the\u00a0US dollar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSaudi Arabia would be forced to\u00a0sell up\u00a0to $750 billion in\u00a0Treasury securities and other assets in\u00a0the United States before\u00a0they could be in\u00a0danger of\u00a0being frozen by\u00a0American courts,\u201d Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir told the US Congress in\u00a0March, the New York Times reported.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"jAW0KWxQ57\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mintpressnews.com\/iraqis-use-911-victims-bill-demand-compensation-us-2003-invasion\/221071\/\">Iraqis Use 9\/11 Victims Bill To Demand Compensation From US For 2003 Invasion<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Iraqis Use 9\/11 Victims Bill To Demand Compensation From US For 2003 Invasion&#8221; &#8212; MintPress News\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mintpressnews.com\/iraqis-use-911-victims-bill-demand-compensation-us-2003-invasion\/221071\/embed\/#?secret=jAW0KWxQ57\" data-secret=\"jAW0KWxQ57\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RAEL\u2019S COMMENT: Absolutely right!
