Wonderful!<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The best teacher in Texas has given hope to students around the world after banning homework. A note from Brandy Young in which she tells parents homework has been abolished in favor of family time has gone viral.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter much research this summer,\u201d\u00a0the note begins, prompting many to ponder what exactly happened during Young\u2019s summer to start a revolution. It continues:\u00a0\u201cHomework will only consist of work that your student did not finish during the school day. There will be no formally assigned homework this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The note was handed to parents at a\u00a0\u201cMeet the Teacher Night\u201d\u00a0at Godley Elementary School. Young claims a lack of research on the benefits of homework resulted in her decision and that students should instead\u00a0\u201ceat dinner as a family, read together, play outside, and get your child to bed early.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parent Samantha Gallagher shared the note online with the comment,\u00a0\u201cBrooke is loving her new teacher already!\u201d\u00a0referring to her seven-year-old who attends the school. The post has since been shared almost 70,000 times, with one commenter saying:\u00a0\u201cThis is so awesome as it demonstrates how many parents and teachers would support this kind of policy! Especially for kids in Elementary school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Young told\u00a0CBS\u00a0that the decision was a result of a free-thinking superintendent who encouraged innovation.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m trying to develop their whole person; it\u2019s not beneficial to go home and do pencil and paper work,\u201d\u00a0she said.<\/p>\n<p>Homework guru Harris Cooper of Duke University once\u00a0said:\u00a0\u201cThere is no evidence that any amount of homework improves the academic performance of elementary students.\u201d\u00a0Students around the globe are sure to be delighted that someone is finally listening to his advice.<\/p>\n<p>People like Brandy Young exist in our\u00a0#education\u00a0system.
