{"id":281288,"date":"2016-12-30T15:01:21","date_gmt":"2016-12-30T20:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rael.org\/?p=281288"},"modified":"2020-10-28T15:53:54","modified_gmt":"2020-10-28T19:53:54","slug":"this-man-is-suing-the-us-government-for-a-drone-strike-that-murdered-his-family","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/noproxy.rael.org\/hi\/this-man-is-suing-the-us-government-for-a-drone-strike-that-murdered-his-family\/","title":{"rendered":"This man is suing the US government for a drone strike that murdered his family"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><span style=\"color: #008080\"><strong>RAEL\u2019S COMMENT:<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #008080\"><strong>All victims of drone attacks should do the same and that will bankrupt the US economy.<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In 2012, an errant drone strike from a US-planned attack\u00a0murdered two innocent men:\u00a0Ahmed Salem Bin Ali Jaber and Waleed Bin Ali Jaber. \u00a0The men were railing against the atrocities of\u00a0Al Qaeda before attending a meeting where the drone struck.<\/p>\n<p>Now,\u00a0a family member of the victims,\u00a0Faisal bin Ali Jaber, has approached a U.S. appellate court to demand an apology from the American government for his family members\u2019 deaths.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was something impossible to imagine for a person,\u201d Jaber\u00a0explained\u00a0to ABC News, recounting the event. \u201cI stood on body parts of people. The smell was very strange. I don\u2019t know what was mixed with what \u2014 blood, mixed with the smell of ammunition. I think I lost consciousness, I imagined that nothing had happened and went back to smiling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Reprieve, the UK-based human rights organization\u00a0backing Jaber\u2019s suit, this marks the \u201cfirst ever US appellate court hearing in a case brought by a civilian victim of the covert drone program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An attorney with Reprieve described it as \u201ca last resort to get something that should be very simple: an acknowledgment that his relatives were wrongly killed, and a public apology for their tragic deaths.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a\u00a0letter\u00a0to President Obama sent on the eve of this week\u2019s appearance in the appellate court, Jaber wrote:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The only thing that can prevent the mistakes of the past from repeating themselves in the future is accountability. True accountability does not come from policy documents absent facts.
