If the reaction on Twitter is anything to go by, the campaign did not have the desired effect.<\/p>\n<p>Long criticized for displaying, and\u00a0refusing\u00a0to return, pieces like Egypt\u2019s Rosetta Stone, Greece\u2019s Parthenon marbles, India\u2019s Koh-i-Noor diamond, and Australia\u2019s Gweagal shield, the museum has launched an initiative to gain more visitors by being open about how certain artefacts came into their possession.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the museum\u00a0launched\u00a0the \u2018Collected Histories talks\u2019, a monthly meeting to give visitors a nuanced take on \u201chow, why, and in what context British Museum objects have been acquired, displayed and interpreted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe talks will explore histories of collecting objects from around the world,\u201d the museum adds.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Sushma Jansari, curator of the Asian ethnographic and South Asia collections at the British Museum, said the talks were established to change the museum\u2019s negative public perception.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a lot of partial histories and they tend to focus on the colonial aspect of the collecting so you have a bunch of people who tend to be quite angry and upset,\u201d she\u00a0told\u00a0the Guardian.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re trying to reset the balance a little bit.
