Time for world revolution!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Swiss resort of Chateaux-d\u2019Oex is known for its hot air balloons. The Swiss resort of Davos is known for hot air. Or at least for one week a year, when some of the world\u2019s biggest windbags meet to discuss \u2018significant\u2019 issues.<\/p>\n

This year, the cool and trendy thing to express concern over at the World Economic Forum is\u00a0\u2018inequality.\u2019\u00a0OK, ya? Everyone seemed to agree that something needs to be done to narrow the \u201cstaggering\u201d gap between rich and poor \u2013 to repeat the phrase used by Canada\u2019s liberal hipster PM Justin Trudeau, the man with those cute yellow and purple ducky socks.<\/p>\n

French President\u00a0Emmanuel Macron, who we\u2019re told was greeted like a\u00a0\u201crock star,\u201d\u00a0declared:\u00a0\u201cIn the global process, capitalism has become a capitalism of superstars, the spreading of value (to those lower down the ladder) is no longer equitable.\u201d<\/p>\n

But solutions which would actually reduce\u00a0inequality\u00a0were less forthcoming. It reminded me of the annual expressions of\u00a0\u2018concern\u2019\u00a0when above-inflation increases in train fares are announced in Britain \u2013 the country with the highest fares in Europe. Government-supporting politicians say\u00a0\u201cthis is disappointing\u201d\u00a0\u2013 and guess what \u2013 the next year the fares go up again. No one wants to be quoted as saying that they\u2019re in favor of 82 percent of the wealth going to the top 1 percent, but at the same time, they\u2019re unwilling to take the steps which would actually make that an impossibility.<\/p>\n

Take this extract from the\u00a0speech\u00a0made by British Prime Minister Theresa May:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to do more to help our people in the changing global economy, to rebuild their trust in technology as a driver of progress and ensure no one is left behind as we take the next leap forwards\u2026 We have to remember that the risks and challenges we face do not outweigh the opportunities. And in seeking to refresh the rules to meet the challenges of today, we must not miss out on the prize for tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n

Does anyone know understand what May was actually saying? There was verbiage aplenty in her address, but practical solutions?<\/p>\n
