RAEL’S THOUGHT:
The most fundamental freedom guaranteed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is the human right to freedom of movement and ideas.
Governments that force us, under penalty of prosecution, to remain within the confines of our home are violating this fundamental right. Whatever the justifications may be; epidemics, wars, terrorism, etc.., absolutely nothing can justify this violation of our freedom.
Some claim that the Messages instruct us to respect human laws. Yes, but not all laws! Those that don’t respect human rights don’t HAVE to be respected and should be considered void. Let’s not forget that there were once laws authorizing slavery, racial segregation, or ones that made it mandatory to report Jews or homosexuals to the police. Of course, these laws should not have been respected!
The free movement of people and ideas also guarantee the freedom to endanger one’s own life. Whether it’s going out during an epidemic, mountain climbing, sailing during a sea storm, or practicing dangerous sports. No one has the right to prevent you from risking your own life.
Some claim that going out during a lockdown puts the lives of “others” in danger. But who are these “others” if not other people who do not respect the lockdown either? Those who accept this “loss of freedom” which is confinement, it’s their choice. But they should not blame those who go out. By staying at home you are protected from those who go out anyway. So let those who accept the risk of being contaminated live that risk! It’s their freedom while you can remain in safety confined to your home.
The same goes for wearing the mask. It’s your choice, but don’t blame those prepared to take the risk of not wearing them. Wear one if you like if you think it will protect you from those who refuse to wear one.
It’s your freedom to live lying down, but let those who wish to stand stand!
